How I Organized the Nursery Dresser

Last week you got to see our final product from Our Giant Furniture Haul – Dressers and Nightstand.  This week I’ll show you how I organized the dressers with all of the baby items and clothes we have.  I even have extra space!

I’ll start on the top of the dresser and work my way down after that.  On top, I have a changing pad with a cover strapped to the additional piece Shane added.  Next to it, I have a little box with hand sanitizer, Triple Paste Medicated Ointment for Diaper Rash and a BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush.  I keep this in a small IKEA Skubb box for easy access.  The Skubb boxes are excellent for organization.  I have them in different sizes in almost every drawer in this dresser, my bedroom dresser and nightstand, and my closet.  In front of the box is a lamb security blanket.

On the top right, I have a Skurar Plant Pot that I use to store bows and headbands.  Yes, you read that correctly, a plant pot!  Think outside the box people 🙂  In front of the pot is a pacifier pocket that I will (one day) hook on to my diaper bag.  Lastly, I have a lamp to add some subtle light during late night feedings or crying sessions (the baby, not me… I hope).  Attached to the lamp are magnetic animals that I had from wayyyy back when I worked in a toy store in high school.

In last week’s post I mentioned Shane added a changing table top to heighten the dresser for us tall people.  As a result we have two extra storage spaces built into the dresser.  I got two large baskets to keep the space organized.  In the left basket are diapers and wipes.  And in the right basket are lotions, creams and other small items.  I like that these are directly below the changing station and easily accessible for emergency situations.

Just below that, in the top left drawer I have an assortment of items.  Most 6-drawer dressers have 6 deep drawers, however the top drawers in this dresser are very shallow and therefore don’t hold much.  I put all the cute, little socks on one side, and bought dollar store organizers for the other side.  In the organizers I have pacifiers and thermometers.  You’ll also see there are some empty containers that need to be filled 🙂  The floral bag between the socks and organization baskets is a healthcare and grooming kit, which is perfect for using at home or to throw in my diaper bag if needed.

The second drawer is full of 0-3 month onesies and pajamas.  I have them all rolled up and organized into the Skubb boxes by whites and colors, short sleeve and long sleeve.  Let’s hope this drawer stays this organized.  I have a feeling after a few loads of laundry I’m going to get sick of rolling and sorting.

The third drawer has built in dividers.  All the way to the left are blankets I’ve crocheted.  You may have seen the one pictured below on Instagram.  The middle section is used for the crib mattress protector and sheets.  All the way to the right are bath towels and wash cloths.

Moving on to the top right drawer.  This is another shallow drawer where I have plenty of room to store more.  I mostly have all my “extras” in here and plenty of dollar store organizers.  Extra light bulbs, extra trash bags, etc.  I also have a few mittens, hats and the Snuza Hero Mobile Baby Movement Monitor.

Below that is another drawer full of clothes and blankets.  More specifically, from left to right, are leggings, tights, diaper covers, burp cloths and swaddles.

Lastly, the bottom right drawer is organized with 3-6 month clothing in the Skubb boxes so I can easy swap out the boxes when the 0-3 month clothing is outgrown.
